Full circle, lamb to sweater 🐑 ✨

I didn’t get into sheep for the wool. I thought it was interesting, sure, and I made sure my breed pick was dual purpose, useful and unique. But I came at sheep from a land management standpoint, controlling spotted knapweed and slowly working to improve our river-sand-over-gravel (you could say it’s well drained 😉) soil on our first shot at owning land. I choose them because the grays called to me, with their cute black lambs and beautiful curls, inquisitive nature and hardiness. Yes, they have been a good fit for me for my original goals. But they have also inspired me to learn so much more, about all the stages of fiber processing between raw wool and a sweater. It’s been a real journey, and it’s not over yet. It’s only just beginning, again. 🌱 🐑 ✨

Fiber friends! A new batch of roving is back from the mill, and it is all absolutely stunning 🤩 I hopped on my wheel to try a sample of each one and they spun up with that Gotland shimmer & shine as you can see! They are all LIVE on the website now, including a couple of sampler bundles so you can try to decide which is your favorite (good luck!) 😉

This pattern singled me out as soon as Theresa and Alla shared it 😉 I knew I had to attempt to make a pair of my own, and I wanted to incorporate shades of Gotland from my own flock. I started with my Icelandic yarn as the main color, but it is a moorit/cream/grey and I knew I wanted the mittens to look like the example in the pattern-white for more contrast with the grays. Thank you Theresa for sending up your beautiful white Icelandic! As a beginning but determined knitter, I was able to create these gorgeous mitts and learn new skills thanks to easy to follow instructions and YouTube. Highly recommend! ⭐️
